Hey everyone,
I work at a private English school in Japan, and our make-up lesson policy is driving me a bit nuts.
Basically, parents have to tell us by 10:00 a.m. on the day of the lesson if they want a make-up. After that, it’s a lot of back-and-forth messages trying to figure out a new time. It’s super time-consuming, especially around long weekends or breaks when lots of students want make-ups.
Just lost a student recently because his soccer practice schedule (on the same day as his English class) isn’t announced until after 10:00. I suggested we just let him tell us as soon as he knows, but the Japanese staff were like, “rules are rules.” So, we had to let him go.
I get the need for rules, but this feels really rigid.
How do you handle make-ups at your schools in Japan? Any tips or systems that make it less of a hassle for staff and parents?
