Embassy in home country or country of residence?

Hi everyone,

When applying to language school in Japan, when you get to the step where you’re submitting the following documents to the Japanese embassy for a student visa:

COE
Acceptance letter
Valid Passport
Passport size photo taken with in last 6 months
Student visa application

Does it have to be an embassy in your home country? Or can it be the embassy in the country you’re currently residing in (if it’s outside of your home country)
