Some thickening of plot of what repeated, 3-4 am sharp metallic clangs could be in my apartment building, update to a post I made a few days ago (since deleted).
Heard it right on schedule the next few nights. Still no idea what it could be.
And then, today Saturday afternoon just as about to leave the house, I heard it for the first time ever in the middle of the day! I'm too chicken to step out at 3am to see what it is, but in broad daylight this felt like a great chance to finally satisfy my curiosity. Threw on coat and shoes so fast.
Outside my room, it's SO LOUD. I was shocked. Our walls block more sound than I realized. It felt very violent like a very strong very angry person is hurling metal together with all the force they can muster, it hurt my ears and really startled me hearing it outdoors for the first time. It was extremely unnerving to hear something so loud that sounded very nearby, but unable to see or locate a source.
I didn't discover much more information, but it's definitely not anything going on with the elevator shaft. Nor is it the garbage dumpster which is not moved nor emptied at all on weekends. My two of three theories proved false.
That leaves the theory of a bothersome muppet at work. Not on my floor, since I took a walk around and there no one on my floor. It felt like the sound coming from right on top of me so I think it may be the floor above. No time to go up and take a peep (and the violence of the sound made me scared to do so tbh), had a train to catch.
But I did take a glance around my floor more carefully for possible sources, assuming all floors are constructed basically the same: there are metal railings since the building is open/hollow all the way to the ground floor (hard to explain) but maybe someone is doing a number on the railings upstairs. There are also metal fire doors that normally flat against the wall and never moved. So I haven't heard what those sound like when struck. There is nothing but wall behind them so I don't think they'd sound as hollow as an apartment door. But can't be sure what exactly is being struck and with what and by whom and …why lol.
Still left with plenty of questions. But it felt like a development hearing it in daylight for the first time and being able to step out and hear it outside. In case anyone who kindly read and commented my other post was wondering.
My next move may be take a snoop around the upper floor when it's quiet and see if it looks like anything is damaged from being whacked so hard. Though I'd feel weird doing that since I don't live there lol we'll see.
