What happens if you fail the Japanese portion of the CIR interview?

Hello everyone, JET applicant for this cycle here. I was wondering what actually happens if you interview for the CIR position and you are not considered proficient enough in Japanese for the position? JET recommends N2 or N1, and I am currently between N3 and N2 level and am worried that I am not going to be proficient enough in Japanese to be a CIR. I am okay with being an ALT, but I am concerned whether it will disqualify me or hurt my chances of being offered an ALT position. If you pass the interview but fail the Japanese portion, are you basically guaranteed an ALT position if you consented to it? I want to go for CIR, but I am also content with being an ALT. Thank you to anyone who responds!
