Struggling with a Japanese plateau… any advice?

I’m currently living in Japan and this is my third year here. I’m a university student, and I’ll be starting work next year. I feel like my Japanese is okay for someone who has been here for three years, and during the past year in university my Japanese actually improved really quickly—mostly thanks to chatting with friends all the time.

But recently, I feel like my Japanese has become a less fluent. I really want to express myself precisely, but when I’m talking, often can’t recall the right words or phrasing. It makes conversations awkward, and I feel stuck in this sort of plateau…?

Has anyone else experienced something similar? How did you get through this stage?I’d love to hear your thoughts or advice.

English isn’t my first language, so please excuse any mistakes. Thank you!
