I have an interview at the end of the month at a reputable university for a full-time lecturer position. I have been teaching at various universities as a part-timer for 7 years and this is my first shot at a full-time role.
The interview will be 70 minutes and will consist of a 20 minute mock lesson and a 50 minute Q&A. The Q&A will be in both English and Japanese.
My questions are as follows:
1. Should I try to simulate the beginning of a real 20 minute lesson, involving an opening pair discussion? If yes, can I count on the interviewers playing their roles as students? Or should I try to summarize a 90 minute lesson in 20 minutes? I'm leaning towards the former.
2. For teachers who have had an interview for a full-time position at a Japanese university: How much of the interview do you think will be in Japanese and what level of Japanese are they expecting? I am at about the N2 level but I am anxious about my ability to string together answers with anything more than basic details and examples.
3. How close am I to getting the job? If they are spending 70 minutes on the interview, I doubt there are 20 or more candidates.
