This will be our first trip to Japan. We’re traveling May 24–June 8 (15 nights) as a family—my wife and I in our mid-40s and our daughters, ages 12 and 14. Our current plan is: Tokyo for 7 nights, Hakone for 2 nights, Kyoto for 3 nights, and Osaka for 3 nights.
Is spending 2 nights in Hakone too much? We mainly want the ryokan and onsen experience. Should we replace Hakone with Kanazawa instead and just do a day trip to Hakone/Fuji? And for Hotels, majority do not come up if I have 2 adults and 2 kids. If I make a reservation under 2 adults and 1 child, will that be an issue?
