I’m planning to move to Japan next year and I’m trying to get a better understanding of what living in Japan is like, especially when it comes to apartments. I’ve been searching through different sites, and so far Best Estate has been the most promising since it looks like you can reserve an apartment without already being in Japan (though I’ve heard rent could be more?).
I remember posting something a while back (and deleted it), but someone mentioned that certain apartments or agencies allow you to reserve ahead of time even if you’re still overseas. For anyone who has done this:
• How does reserving from abroad usually work?
Do you reach out directly to the apartment/building, or is it always done through an agent?
• Do you still need a guarantor or a third party even when reserving from outside Japan?
• Any other recommendations for reliable apartment-hunting tools for foreigners?
I’m specifically looking for “mansion” type apartments (modern, reinforced concrete, not super old).
If you’ve moved to Japan recently or gone through this process, I’d really appreciate hearing how it went and what I should expect. Thanks!
