Best way to transfer money

Hi guys, I’ll be relocating by the end of the year and I’ll researching on what’s the best (and cheapest) way to transfer money to Japan. I’m currently in Montreal, Canada. I looked into international wire transfers but it looks like a rip off, Wise looks fine but is a pain to actually add the money on it from the bank, and to bring it physically I believe that are restricted to a maximum of 1 million yen (I’m not sure if it goes by family or person, but still not much). How did you guys manage to bring your money to Japan without doing a handout to banks or intermediaries? Thanks
