Hey, I moved to japan (25f) and my boyfriend (25m) is Japanese and has lived here his whole life. From where I’m originally from, it’s pretty standard to introduce your relationship to your friends and therefore your partner knows all the people you generally hang out with. So it was a pretty important thing for me to know exactly who my partner’s friends are but he told me it’s not a thing in japan for people to introduce their girlfriends. He said it’s like showing off if they do that and that they only really introduce if they plan to get married.
Is that true? Has someone else experienced this? And if they had, how did you overcome this?
I’m not sure if it was right to post here about it but it’s a pretty big value of mine and I’m finding it difficult to come to terms with this culture difference.
