I’ve been living in Japan for several years on a working visa and have never had any real issues. I’m engaged to my Japanese partner here but we had been planning to put off getting married for a while longer but are considering moving it up after my most recent experience with immigration. In the past, I’ve had absolutely no issues getting my visa renewed. But this most recent time was horrible. I started the process back in July and just got my visa back Saturday. It took ages to get processed. They froze my bank account and I couldn’t access any of my money. On top of that, they had be restart my application twice because they said my application was not filled out correctly and I still needed additional documents. In the end, they hit me with another one year visa, which I wouldn’t be so upset about if this process hadn’t been such a hassle. I don’t really understand. I’ve never had this problem before. Taking nearly five months for my visa to be processed just feels insane considering my past experienced which have been extremely positive. Was I just unlucky this time? For those of you who have been here on a working visa and a spousal visa, is it worth it to go ahead and pursue the spousal visa for next time? Is it ANY easier?
