Hi everyone! My girlfriend and I (both 24) are planning a big move to Japan next December. We did a backpacking trip last year and spent a full month in Japan – hitting all the major spots like Tokyo, Osaka, Hiroshima etc. We also had a week of skiing in Niseko and visited the Snow festival in Sapporo. We fell in love with Japan are hoping to move there for a year.
We are from Canada in the Rockies, neither of us can speak any Japanese yet (the very basics from out trip) but plan to begin working with a tutor ASAP. We enjoy good food & Izakaya's but don’t need a crazy party nightlife. We're very strong skiers and do some cautious backcountry skiing at home (not experts).
Looking for some advice on where to base ourselves in Japan during the ski season (or summer too). We loved the skiing in Niseko but found the area a bit too foreign heavy and want more of the Japanese experience.

- Furano
