What’s the kayfabe justification they’re going with?
KOB will definitely be in the War Dogs v United Umpire match then. Still preferred they defended the belts at WK
Having both the World Tag Titles and Junior Heavyweight Title not defended at WK would really suck, tbh.
I know this is basically sold all on Tana’s Final Match but it becoming basically a “2 match” show (Tana/Okada and Tsuji/Takeshita) would be underwhelming.
Edit: can’t believe I’m leaving out Kamitani vs Syuri, making it a “3 match show”.
I’m all for this. Put the IWGP Jr and Tag Title matches on NYD to let those matches shine and to give NYD something special
I’ve been to many WK’s and the tag title match especially usually becomes “just another match” and the defacto intermission.
Ota Ward Gym is not a small arena, they need something special for that show too. The last couple of NYD’s have been dismal to say the least (remember the one which ended with a Bushi mic performance?), so I’m glad they are trying to spruce it up.
I hope this happens. Moving forward with KOB, they are going to need to maintain a consistent tag division. They’ve done a lot of work to establish the possibilities of that division this WTL and giving the culmination of the tournament a featured spot on a big card, as opposed to what it would get on this WK card, is another step in that investment.
To not have a tag title match involving 3 of the newest young guys on the roster & the guy who main evented the Dome last year.
Classic New Japan at this point with the nonsensical booking. Why do we need a 6 man Rambo when we could have just had a tight line up for the biggest show of the year.
So what the fuck is KOB, one of the few acts to get a push in 2025 NJPW, going to do?
So that means no Junior title match, no JR Tag Title match and now no Heavyweight Tag Title match.
I know they wanna put the bulk of the focus on Tanahashi but come on this is getting a tiny bit ridiculous now….
Well, like… that stinks? Are they really leaving Oiwa and Zack off the cards?
I really don’t get this company.
Tana’s retirement is going to bring in a huge audience. After that night, the main event scene of the golden age of New Japan will no longer be actively wrestling for the company.
This is the time to put a big spotlight on the guys that will be carrying the company going forward. Have these talents be in big marquee matches, building up to Tana’s final match.
Instead Umino, Uemura, Oiwa, Zack, Narita and so on aren’t even booked for the show which is happening in 3 weeks. We can’t fit them on the card but we have two AEW reps who won’t be here for the tours booked.
This just seems like the easiest WK to book and they’re somehow messing it up.
I like it! Zack can be the surprise challenger for his one true bekt, the TV title.
