Due to the decline in Chinese tourists, hotel prices in Kyoto are becoming cheaper. There are now some places where you can stay for around 3,000 yen per night. In Kyoto, there are now many reports of hotel rates of less than 10,000 yen per night.

If you look at the prices of hotels around Kyoto Station, some are in the 4,000 yen per night range. Within a 500-meter radius of the station, there are over 20 hotels where you can stay for less than 10,000 yen per night. Some are as cheap as 3,150 yen per night. Mr. A had the following to say after booking a twin room for two people with no meals included for one night at a hotel just a three-minute walk from the station.

"I thought it would cost around ¥15,000 per person, but ¥8,800 per person seemed like a good deal, so I decided to go and made a reservation right away."

Mr. B, staying for three nights
"I thought the cheapest would be around ¥20,000 for three nights. I was surprised. It was under ¥15,000 with breakfast included, so it was extremely affordable."
Mr. B, staying at a hotel about a 15-minute walk from Nijo Castle, paid ¥14,378 for three nights in a single room with breakfast. At roughly ¥4,792 per night, it's an incredibly low price. "Due to the decline in Chinese tourists, there have been cancellations, and they can't fill the gaps with other tourists or Japanese people, so they're lowering the prices," he says. Business hotels are a good bet. The weekdays of the 29th and 30th, sandwiched between the weekend and New Year's Eve, are a great time to book.
The last weekend of the New Year's holidays, the 3rd and 4th of next month, are the peak weekend for people returning home, so you might be able to find a cheap room.
