Looking for a quiet place to stay for the first 2-3 nights in Japan, before visiting Tokyo.

It will be my (43M) and my wife's (40F) and first trip to Japan. We are quiet and introverted. We only know very basic Japanese, like how to order food and greet people. We do not like being in crowded areas for too long, but we understand what some areas in Tokyo will be like. We prioritize a siesta and being able to take as many breaks as we need, or not go out at all if we don't feel like it.

We would like to find a place where we can slowly "warm up" to the culture, transit, language, etc., by staying outside of Tokyo for the first 2-3 nights. Our trip will be about 14 days in total, most of it will be in Tokyo.

I am picturing taking the Shinkansen, immediately after landing, to somewhere that is within the 60-90 minute range from Tokyo station. I was thinking about staying in a place like Kagero no Tsuki in Tochigi, but I am not sure if that is not a good fit for us, since we are not fluent in Japanese. I could be wrong, but it seems more ideal for domestic tourists.

Being able to find plenty of "safe" food options for us is also very important, and I worry about being stuck in a place that is too secluded. It's hard to explain what I mean about safe food. We are moderately adventurous eaters, but we do not like raw or rare meat/seafood, or raw eggs.

Anyway, thanks for reading, and I look forward to reading your suggestions!
