PR re-entry to Japan: 5-year permit vs airport form

Hi everyone,

I’m a Japanese PR and had a quick question about re-entering Japan.

Before leaving Japan, I got the 5-year multiple re-entry permit from Shinagawa Immigration and it’s in my passport.

But when I left at the airport, I also filled out the re-entry card they staple in your passport, and on that one I checked the box saying I’d return within 2 years (because at the time I thought I could).

Now the 2 years are almost up, and with my current situation it’s not easy for me to go back just for a short trip.

Does anyone know:

Will the 5-year re-entry permit still be valid even if I come back after those 2 years?

Or could I have problems at the airport because of what I checked on the departure card?

If anyone has been through something similar, I’d really appreciate hearing your experience. Thanks!
