[Spoilers] Road to Tokyo Dome Night One (12/19) Results – Tana vs Hiromu

Wolf watch: present (and wearing his new merch)

Zane Jay, Ryusuke Taguchi, Tiger Mask def Masatora Yasuda, Tomoaki Honma, Togi Makabe — (7:40, Chicken Wing Armlock)

  • Yasuda has re-earned his second kneepad, so he no longer has to switch a single one to which taped knee is bothering him the most.

  • After the entrances, Yasuda steps up to Zane. They bump chests and shove before separating to tell their teammates they’ll start.

  • So yeah, I think Yasuda is going on excursion in early 2026 and may end up being either the next TM or the spiritual successor. I wonder if maybe they’ll send he and Kato to CMLL together, so they have each other to lean on in a mostly unfamiliar country. (Yasuda’s father, Zumbido, is still active in Mexican indies.)

  • Post match, Zane gets a little shit talking to Yasuda in after Yasuda’s left the ring.

  • Tiger takes some extra time to do fanservice as he leaves.

  • In the Backstage Comments, Tiger asks Makabe and Taguchi to be teammates with him for the NEVER 6 Ranbo, and they accept.

Tatsuya Matsumoto, Boltin Oleg, YOSHI-HASHI, Hirooki Goto def Shoma Kato, Master Wato, YOH, Toru Yano — (8:26, Boston Crab)

  • I think Boltin is gonna have the right side taped joints all the way until 2026.

  • YOH keeps pec popping even after the entrances are over, and Matsumoto steps up to him doing the same. But it’s Yano who tells everyone he wants to start with YOSHI-HASHI; and they do so.

  • Post match, Bishamon and Boltin in the ring have words with the NEVER 6 Champs at ringside.

  • In their Backstage Comments, it’s confirmed that Bishamon and Boltin will be entering the NEVER 6 Ranbo.

Yujiro Takahashi, SHO, DOUKI def Katsuya Murashima, KUUKAI, El Desperado — (8:58, Italian Stretch No.32)

  • As HoT are entering, Despe stares down DOUKI and briefly gets up against the ropes to yell at him. DOUKI hangs back at ringside until it’s time for his ring announcement.

  • Despe starts calling out DOUKI to start, but SHO keeps stepping in and talking crap to him. So Despe settles with SHO.

  • There’s a Despe chant as it looks like we’ll be getting a rare clean HoT start… DOUKI and Yuj try to attack while Despe’s back is turned to them, but Despe spins around and knocks them off the apron.

  • HoT Shenanigans level: light-moderate.

  • Post match, Despe stares at DOUKI from ringside, then he and KUUKAI help Murashima leave.

Yoshinobu Kanemaru, SANADA[t-shirt version], Ren Narita, “True King of Darkness” EVIL[w/Dick Togo II] def Satoshi Kojima, Taichi, Yuya Uemura, Shota Umino — (8:52, DQ [Guerrero spot, guitar version])

  • Taichi and Koji get a full entrance to Taichi’s music, then Yuya and Shota come out together with the same lazy music mashup they had for WTL. Yuya and Shota both do fanservice as they enter, Shota slightly moreso.

  • Dick Togo OG makes his return by attacking the faces from behind shortly after the entrances are over. Taichi, still in his jacket, is left in the ring with Nobu.

  • HoT Shenanigans level: moderate. This was actually kind of a fun one, worth watching.

  • Post match, HoT continue to attack the face team, until Aaron Wolf enters the ring to face off with EVIL. Dick comes from behind to choke Wolf, EVIL laughs at him until Taichi with a chair chases the House out of the ring.

  • Wolf sits on the outside, (kind of badly) selling the choking as the faces check on him. After a minute he gets up and walks back to his ringside station.

  • Taichi and Kojima get in the ring, and Taichi helps Koji stand up but then shoves him. They start to come to blows but Shota and Yuya come in to separate them.

  • They yell at each other, then Shota shepherds Taichi out of the ring while Yuya helps Kojima exit on the opposite side. Taichi leaves the arena by himself, Shota goes over to assist Yuya with helping Kojima out.

  • In the Backstage Comments, Taichi says Ishii is making his comeback at the Tokyo Dome and they’re entering the NEVER 6 Ranbo. Kojima volunteers to be their third, and Taichi accepts.

  • Backstage Comments add Nobu, SANADA, and Narita to the NEVER 6 Ranbo.

Gedo, Shingo Takagi, Yota Tsuji def Jakob Austin Young, Callum Newman, Great-O-Khan — (11:06, DQ)

  • Three shows until Yota Tsuji has a WHC match in the Tokyo Dome. He is wearing a bomber jacket. (I will give him a chance to explain this choice, as it would work if it’s annoyance at his match not being the WK main event.) He also has his hair in a 1/2 man bun, but that’s not an issue.

  • UE attack as Tsuji is entering the ring. We get a short brawl at ringside and into the crowd before Callum brings Tsuji back to the ring.

  • Full heel UE is very interesting. The finish was Callum, who was not legal, just bringing in a chair and chucking it at Shingo’s face right in front of the ref.

  • Post match, Callum punches Shingo and swats away some YL, until Tsuji comes over and Callum bails and as usual lately retreats into the crowd to talk shit.

Kosei Fujita, Hartley Jackson, Ryohei Oiwa, Zack Sabre Jr. def Daiki Nagai, Taiji Ishimori, Knock Out Brothers (OSKAR, Yuto-Ice) — (11:30, Death Valley Bomb)

  • After the entrances, Yuto and Zack get forehead to forehead. Oiwa gets in between them, then Zack steps up to OSKAR and taunts him with the WTL trophy. OSKAR walks away and Yuto comes back over, Zack throws his jacket at Yuto. The ref finally separates everyone… briefly, as Zack goes right back to antagonizing both of K.O.B (Oiwa tries to get Yuto’s attention but is blatantly ignored.)

  • Everyone calms down enough for Fujita to start with Ishimori.

  • This was very good, worth watching although we are getting a similar match on the other two shows of this tour.

  • Post match, Yuto and Zack have a very brief confrontation on the outside, then Zack and Oiwa with the WTL trophies and K.O.B with the belts antagonize each other, which gets Oiwa slapped by Yuto.

  • K.O.B start to leave, and get almost all the way out before Yuto gives his belt to OSKAR and runs to attack Zack. The two teams have a brawl while the YL try to separate them, during which Zack takes what may have been a nasty bump against the arena wall. Zack and Yuto brawl to the back via a side exit, OSKAR yells Oiwa down then leaves. A frustrated Oiwa leaves by himself via the regular curtain.

  • Fujita and Hartley are left to celebrate in the ring, get their hands raised, and carry the WTL trophies to the back.

They play a nice video package about Hiromu and Tana’s history, which I’ll link in the comments.

Tanahashi Final Road ~Connection~: Hiroshi Tanahashi def Hiromu Takahashi — (14:25, High Fly Flow)

  • Hiromu’s brought out his biblically-accurate big match jacket, and has special shorts for the occasion that have bits of Tana’s tights design on them.

  • This was very good. Hiromu used some Naito moves, including going for a Destino, and also attempted then later successfully hit a Rainmaker. He also used some of Tana’s own moves against him. Tana used a Rainmaker/slingblade hybrid as part of the finishing sequence.

  • Post match, Tana kneels down to have some words with Hiromu. Hiromu starts to roll out, but Tana grabs him by the wrist and helps him up, then raises his hand. They exchange some more words, then Tana offers a handshake and they hug. Hiromu leaves.

  • Tana promo: “NJPW has returned to Gunma! This was my last match in Gunma, so thank you for your support. The time goes by so fast. I only have three matches left. I gave it my all every single night to get to this point. And now as a result, all of you have some out here for us and I appreciate that. Thank you. But I feel so sad! Sad but grateful.”

  • We get an air guitar performance.

  • Tana continues: “That was my full set. Thank you for selling out the Tokyo Dome! There's one thing I want to try. When I went to the Dome as student, we did a big wave around the Tokyo Dome, and I want to try that here tonight. (he leads the crowd in doing the wave) That's it! Let's do it at the Tokyo Dome! Shall we practice once more? (he gets the crowd to do it again)

  • Tana goes to do the Aishitemasu but gets the name of the town wrong and is booed for it. He corrects himself and successfully Aishitemasu-s.

  • As per usual, Tana does a lot of fanservice on his way out.
