Ace is too humble, he’s been having great matches all year.
Before the Lucha politics were blamed for the kibosh, everyone wanted to blame H and the Superior Khan. They wanted the narrative to be that those guys were assholes who didn’t want the dream retirement match.
Even if the Fed didn’t own AAA, the match wouldn’t happen because NJPW is bending over backwards to Richie Rich.
I miss the old NJPW who made the Liger NXT deal behind ROH’s back and didn’t give a fuck what they’d think about it. Now they have to be at the mercy of a rich kid who gives them a gate and PPV split to keep profits afloat.
Harold Meij wouldn’t have allowed none of this to happen. He had every right to tell Richie Rich to fuck off. Bro who cries about contract tampering was doing that when his EVPs were under contract.
Crazy of him to say this outright but, he’s right.
He can still go but not WK main event caliber (not an insult, very few can) and Nakamura is no spring chicken either. Naito, Ibushi, even Omega are not what they used to be and Okada seems to still be able to switch that on when he wants to. As far as match quality goes this is probably best possible scenario.
When that article came out, this was said in there. There were 4 names under consideration, and he felt Okada would get the best possible match out of him (Omega, Naito, Nakamura were the others)
Humble response, as expected of our ace.
He could have opted to give that opportunity to a young guy. But if he wanted it to be a high quality match against a former rival, Okada was the best choice and also the most convenient as well.
Who else could he have went with that wasn’t hit by age and injuries? Off the top of my head, I think the only guy that would have come close is AJ Styles. And if they couldn’t get Nakamura, they definitely wouldn’t have been able to get him.
So what’s the ACTUAL SOURCE of these comments? Where’s the link?
It’s a work btw. Or are we supposed to point this out only when it’s someone talking shit about AEW?
I for one am excited to see Okada back in NJPW. And it speaks volumes to how how much of a star he is that upon announcing him tickets to the show sold out….
I mean, it’s not like he’ll say, “Okada was my second choice. I really wanted to go out against my old comrade Shinsuke, but WWE said no, so….”
Okada slows things down. He works the mat. He’s the best kind of wrestler to hide a guy’s physical flaws. His style can cover for busted knees, etc. It’s part of why he’s so great.
Ironically, it’s also why he filters some people who think he’s “””boring”””
And this still won’t be enough for a lot of them cause the fans know better than him I guess
This is NJPW. Not DDT. No brooms 😀
I’m not ready for this match. How are we meant to just carry on afterwards?!
I’m going to say it, anyone who whines about Tana’s “match quality” in his RETIREMENT match is an idiot. Unless man is going to Kota Ibushi the match and break his ankles, NOBODY is there to watch him put on a 5 star banger.
People are there to watch him retire. If you are expecting some EPIC struggle, what are you even on?
He’s gonna kill himself doing a ring to ringside high fly flow. I can see it.
Hey so they just released the English version of this interview and they literally ***edited out the entire section where OP’s quote was.***
So the English site is literally censoring things now.
