A small request to foreign tourists participating in hatsumode: This is an important ritual, not a show for social media content. Be respectful, be mindful. Follow the behavior of locals, don’t livestream at shrines and temples. Be aware of where photography is prohibited.

  1. Maybe stop trying to pinpoint blame onto a certain minority that isn’t even 1% of the problem? Went today as I usually do, I don’t really live in a tourist hot stop but there was a few foreigners there, behaving better than the average Japanese, while I saw quite a few Japanese filming each other ringing the bell or just being drunk and loud in general.

Always nice giving out information, but stop trying to make it seem like problems are only caused by a specific group. For every foreigner that does something bad you will have a hundred Japanese that does the same.

The problem is that when you see a Japanese do it you just see a bad apple, while when a foreigner does it you go “ah foreigners”

Lets just call out bad behavior no matter who it is.

  2. As an American born Japanese person, who has spent nearly every other year of my life visiting Japan, this is valid to say. All this gate keep that, or generalizing of foreigners is just dumb. It’s saying to be respectful and to do your part because as a visitor you should and have to live to higher standards. This bs shit of oh I saw another Japanese person be an ass so now I can also is so fucking small minded. You really think that people still find it acceptable…NO.

OP literally said to just be respectful and mindful like that’s it. If you’re so fucking stubborn that you can’t just say yes then don’t travel.
