gap-year advice

I‘m sorry, if this has been asked before!

HeyHey fellow redditors. I‘m a german Highschool student planning to move to Tokyo once I graduate in June.

Not to study, but to experience the culture and learn the language – like a gap year. My stay would begin in August. I‘d be my first time living abroad, so I have many questions regarding my stay. I‘m learning Japanese for almost 2 years now and can hold a basic conversation. I have saved enough for a flight ticket and cash for rent/other expenses for 2-3 months. Here‘re some questions I‘m dealing with currently:

• how long should I stay abroad? I plan on moving in August. Are 9-10 months ideal? Is winter a good time for living in Tokyo?

• where should I look for apartments; is living in a shared household (with a roommate) common? Is it easy for foreigners to find a place to live?

• how about money? Should I take a part time job (like a language teacher, or at a restaurant) – if yes: what are my best options? How much money should I have saved for rent and other expenses?

•how do I find friends in Tokyo? I think living with a roommate is maybe a good start to get integrated into life there.

Is there any other stuff i should know? Then I‘d be happy to hear that. I‘d be glad if you could help me out. Have a great day, and thank you for reading till here :P. ╰(*´︶`*)╯
