Is it just me or has the 7-Eleven hot coffee serving size decreased? I got an L size this morning and there seemed to be less coffee than usual in the cup 🙁
First time experiencing an earthquake, intensity was just a 3 here but still pretty spooky. Hope everyone is okay!
With the upcoming proposed changes targeting immigration and foreigners in Japan there’s been a pretty strong reaction to them by parts of community here on reddit, and at the same time a counter reaction to that by some of the other users urging calm as those changes have not been enacted, merely proposed, or up for consideration. I am curious though is whether there are past examples where a number of changes have been proposed, but ultimately didn’t get implemented in their original capacity, or at all?
CMV: Japan *will* and *have to* eventually welcome foreigners with open arms, but it would take a massive event that *completely* destabilizes the Japanese society and/or *fully* eradicates national pride among the Japanese to do so.
Right now as it stands, rising costs of living, a weakening Yen, a hostile USA/China, etc. have done nothing but stoke anti-foreigner sentiments among the Japanese more and more.
Here’s two scenarios of what I think would need to happen:
1) China invades Taiwan, Japan sends the SDF to assist the latter but fails in a humiliating manner. China takes over Taiwan (possibly even the Senkaku Islands), Japan slumps into an economic depression from the costs incurred by the war and have no choice but to open the country to other nationals.
2) A massive earthquake hits central Kanto, wiping out a large portion of the Japanese population, mostly elderly but many young people as well. Again, an economic depression ensues but is exacerbated by the fact that the working population is also greatly shaved from the disaster.
We are finally getting the guest room/laundry room set up this year. It took a lot of convincing, but hubby agreed to get a nice day bed from Ikea. I went to Nitori yesterday and found curtains & bedding in the prettiest shades of blue and green too, to make the room feel more relaxed. Can’t wait to get the room ready for future company~
so i want to park my bike in our neighborhood’s bike parking which is just an empty road with lots of space. The catch? The applications are closed and i have to wait till april. What the fuck? I guess getting a fine is the only way? I dont get this shit. The place is always half empty. whats the point?
Went to Kobe with the gf for a few days. Had a great time but the クソババア who yelled 外人! at me when we walked past put a bit of a damper on the trip.
I thought I was long past engrish humor, but I saw a security truck and two security guards proudly wearing a big “A.S.S.” logo and lost it. Then I looked them up and their url is literally “assjapan” and lost it again. It has to be on purpose.
It’s so frustrating to meet seemingly nice people through hobbies and follow each other on social media only for them to later post some xenophobic bullshit like “non-citizen children shouldn’t be allowed to attend Japanese schools.”
The fallacy of right-wing xenophobes only being bots or chronically online and not amongst us in real life is, well, a fallacy.
