Learning to Surf in Okinawa

Hi folks,

I'm living in Okinawa for the next six months near Onna. It's my first time to Japan and the quiet island life up here is lovely. I've always wanted to surf, and I'm finally in a position to learn how to do so! Especially since the water here is much warmer than what I'm used to (by about 7 degrees F and C).

Any recommendations and/or advice for newbies near the Onna area? I'll have access to a car soonish.
