  1. There are three weekly TV shows. One is a half hour and covers recent shows with abridged matches and clips. Another is an hour and is like two months behind current content, but shows longer matches and airs in prime time. The third show is a variety talk show that has the wrestlers as guests going out and about. Asahi is one of the main broadcast TV stations in Japan.

  2. The variety show airs at about 2:30am, WPW airs at 1am and even the 1/4 show wasn’t live on the main channel, it aired clipped at 10:15pm (Though it is scheduled for a full broadcast later on). Its great the NJ has three shows on TV Asahi (As well as major shows airing live/near live) but its hardly a needle.mover to TV Asahi in the way it used to be. This says a lot about New Japan, but probably even more about the way the world has moved away from traditional TV consumption

  3. The TV special “NJPW 1.4 Tokyo Dome! Tanahashi Retirement & Wolf Debut SP” aired nationwide on January 4th at 10:15 PM on TV Asahi. It recorded a household rating of 5.2% and an individual rating of 2.9% in the Kanto region, according to Video Research. In Japan, 1% individual rating corresponds to roughly 400,000 viewers in the Kanto area, so an individual rating of 2.9% means about 1.16 million people watched the program. For a pro-wrestling broadcast, having more than one million viewers is considered a very strong number.
