My husband and I are visiting Okinawa late February, and are planning to go on a snorkeling excursion to the Kerama Islands. I'm so excited because I love fish and have never been able to snorkel near reefs before. It's also my first time snorkeling.
The problem is, my husband is 6'3" (182cm) and 260 lbs (118 kg), and the tour we booked does not have wetsuits in his size available, and I am questioning whether they truly have any that will fit me, since I have wide hips and anything that fits my bottom half will likely be way too big for my top half.
Before we go trying to buy something to lug out with us, do you know if there are any shops that rent wetsuits for, let's say, American-sized people? (We are actually Canadian, but already learned in our last trip to Japan that the country is simply not built for people my husband's size). I figured with the heavy presence of Americans in the island there must be SOMEWHERE that caters to that demographic.
Also, how necessary are wetsuits that time of year? And what types would you recommend? Keeping in mind that we are from a cold climate and occasionally take dips in glacier lakes, but of course not in and out of the water all day.
Really appreciate any advice! Since I've never been anywhere like Okinawa, I just don't know what to expect.
