Hi All,
My wife and I are planning a 2 week trip from May 17-30th, in which we fly into Tokyo on May 17th at 1:30pm and out of Tokyo May 30th at 5pm. This is our first time going to Japan.
We are interested in the traditional broad slate of what people are interested in. Neither of us are big drinkers or nightlifers. We love nature, history, and museums. Want to do some shopping and exploring in Tokyo. We’re not huge into anime but love Nintendo and Ghibli.
We are not averse to crowds, and are fine hitting touristy locations, because we’re tourists. We are very used to walking everywhere and using public transit, as we live in DC.
We are big foodies and would like to try a wide variety while we’re there.
We do like amusement parks, but did an Orlando trip fairly recently (including Nintendo world at Epic), so we’re only really planning to hit DisneySea as it seems the most unique to Japan.
We’re currently trying to get a broad Birds Eye view of where we want to be on each day, and currently have mapped the following out.
Day 1: Sun. May 17 – Drop things off in hotel around 3-4pm; Tokyo exploration near hotel and fight jet lag.
Day 2: Mon. May 18 – Tokyo
Day 3: Tues. May 19 – Tokyo
Day 4: Wed. May 20 – Tokyo to Hakone
Day 5: Thurs. May 21 – Hakone to Mt Koya
Day 6: Fri. May 22 – Mt Koya to Kyoto
Day 7: Sat. May 23 – Kyoto
Day 8 Sun. May 24 – Kyoto
Day 9: Mon. May 25 – Nara + Osaka
Day 10: Tues. May 26 – Kyoto to Hiroshima / Miyajima
Day 11: Wed. May 27 – Miyajima / Himeji to Tokyo
Day 12: Thurs. May 28 – Tokyo DisneySea
Day 13: Fri. May 29 – Tokyo
Day 14: Sat. May 30 – a little bit of Tokyo exploration in the morning; Flying out of Tokyo
Any suggestions on if there’s areas we should spend more or less time in?
A few alternatives we had thought of was substituting a Tokyo or Kyoto day for a day trip to Nikko. As well as subbing Hakone for a stay in Takayama or Kiso Valley.
