MUFG stop me opening a bank account… WHY?

I booked an appointment at MUFG to open a bank account about three weeks in advance.

On the day, I brought all my documents, arrived 10 minutes early, and even waited an extra 20 minutes past my appointment time. But in the end, they refused to open the account because I already have a Japan Post Bank (Yucho) account.

I explained that I wanted a separate account for salary and living expenses, and I really tried to communicate with my limited Japanese and a translator app. Still, the final answer was just “No.”

Now I’m wondering…can I try again at a different MUFG branch? Or is it better to just go to another bank and try opening an account there instead?
