EDIT: I am in the IT consulting industry, I am 正社員, part of my year end evaluation is what percentage of my time is charged to clients and a part is my feedback on projects. I can control the later and I can’t control the former.
I heard from my boss that actually my performance was good but I didn’t reach my utilization numbers by a huge amount (due to dealing with a family issue and going on unpaid leave for two months early of last year).
They said that actually performance is great so they agreed to give me an “below satisfactory” rating instead an “L” rating which is far below satisfactory.
If I got the far below satisfactory, then I would be laid off almost immediately. But with a normal below satisfactory ranking, I will likely be put in a performance plan for 2-3 months (and then likely be laid off). I said that because my issue isn’t my performance but the lack of projects available currently. So if utilization number isnt enough by March 31, I may be laid off.
I know it is tough to lay off people in Japan but what does that entail? Should I sign off on the performance plan? Should I sign off on the evaluation? Should I try to contest it?
My company doesn’t have any unions.
