Hi all. I recently moved from California to Japan. I am trying to convert my CA license to a Japanese one, but I totally underestimated how long the process would take (have been trying to stay up to midnight to snag a reservation for the written test, so far without success…). Now it seems like my CA license will expire before I’m able to complete the conversion process.
I seem to have 3 options:
- Proceed with the conversion process, hope that I get a date for the written test soon, and am able to schedule the driving test very soon after (I would only have maximum 2 weeks between the written test and the expiry date)
- Give up on the license conversion and just start form scratch
- Try to renew my CA license. I have the option to renew online, and can probably figure out a way to get it mailed to me. My biggest concern here is the potential tax implications as I’ve heard CA can take drivers licenses as an indication of tax residency…
Which would you choose? Is there any point in still trying for option 1?…
