Hello everyone,
I’d appreciate some advice or similar experiences regarding degree submission differences between COE and visa extension.
Here’s my situation:
I came to Japan in January 2023 on an Engineer Visa.
At the time of my COE application, I did not have my physical degree certificate due to COVID-related delays.
However, I had 3+ years of relevant professional experience in my field.
My company applied under the International Services category, where a degree is not mandatory if sufficient work experience and other academic certificates related to my work are proven.
The COE and visa were approved without any issues.
Now, during my visa extension, one of the required forms asked for “final education.”
Since I now have my original degree certificate, I listed it honestly as my last education and submitted a copy of the degree along with the other requested documents.
My concern is:
- During the COE, I did not submit my degree
- During the extension, I did submit my degree
- The graduation date is earlier than the COE application, but I didn’t have the physical certificate at that time.
Questions:
- Is this situation normal, or could immigration question why the degree wasn’t submitted during the COE?
- Has anyone experienced submitting additional or different academic documents during an extension compared to their original COE?
- Is it generally acceptable as long as the information is truthful and consistent?
Any insights or personal experiences would be really helpful.
Thank you very much!
