Hi everyone,
I’m currently living in Japan and had a question about weight-loss medications in Japan, specifically Mounjaro.
A friend of mine in Japan recently switched from Wegovy to Mounjaro after not seeing much progress, and the difference was pretty noticeable. That made me curious about how accessible Mounjaro actually is in Japan, I assume it would be prescribed as a self-pay treatment.
I’ve heard mixed things about how people (including non-Japanese residents) go about getting it — some seem to use in-person clinics, while others mention online or telemedicine options. I’ve also heard names floating around, but I’m not very familiar with the system yet.
Since this would be my first time looking into something like this, and my Japanese is fairly limited, I wanted to ask:
– What’s the usual route people take to get Mounjaro here?
– Are language barriers a big issue during consultations?
And if you’ve actually gotten it prescribed, which clinics or platforms did you use? That info would be really helpful.
Not looking for medical advice — just trying to understand how this works in Japan from a practical, lived-experience perspective.
Thanks a lot — any firsthand experiences or tips would be really appreciated!
