Shimane Prefecture Governor Tatsuya Maruyama revealed at a regular press conference on the 22nd that he has informed Chugoku Electric Power Co. that if any misconduct related to safety is found at the company's Shimane Nuclear Power Plant (Matsue City) during his term of office, he intends to request the resignation of the president and executives in charge. He said he decided to take action in response to the issue of Chubu Electric Power Co. falsifying data on "standard earthquake motion," which serves as a guideline for the seismic design of the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant (Omaezaki City, Shizuoka Prefecture).

Governor Maruyama said, "In order to ensure safety, if there is any wrongdoing, we will demand the resignation of the president and executives. If they do not resign, we cannot trust them. This is that big of a problem."

According to the prefecture, a prefectural official verbally conveyed this to Chugoku Electric Power on the 9th. They also said that if the governor's request for resignation was not accepted, they would not agree to the operation of the nuclear power plant, and Chugoku Electric Power responded, "We have accepted the governor's thinking."
