I’m looking for some advice for a 2-week trip to Okinawa this summer (from mid-July). I’ve already been to mainland Japan before, but this time my girlfriend and I decided to focus on Okinawa to combine Japan with some beach time.
Unlike many itineraries we’ve seen, though, we’d still like to “feel” a bit of Japan during the trip (even if we know Okinawan culture is quite different), and not focus exclusively on nature and beaches but have also some urban time.
Also, we’re not huge fans of renting a car, even though we know it’s highly recommended in Okinawa. We’d prefer to rely on public transport/ferries/bike renting as much as possible, if feasible.
Based on this, and trying not to move around too much in the typhoon season, this is our very rough first draft:
Arrival + 3–4 nights in Naha
2 nights in Zamami
Flight + 4 nights in Ishigaki
Possibly add 1–2 nights somewhere else (not decided yet)
Back to Naha for the last 3 nights
We know this is just a first idea and we’re very open to suggestions.
Do you think this makes sense? Any recommendations?
