I’m going to Japan in 2027 for my senior year trip, my friends have gone before the previous years and said it was pretty cold but cold can somewhat vary since we live in the south and it’s usually very warm here. Wha are things that I should wear or pack with me? Sweaters, a coat, leggings, stockings, etc? Ik the trip is a almost a year away but I want to be prepared
Edit : Okay my apologies for how unspecific this was, I should’ve clarified that this is supposed to be a spring break trip specifically in March. Like I said, Southerners(specifically Texan) here and the temperature in spring usually flip flops between being really cold or practically summer

Well it helps if you specify what dates you will be visiting as there is a huge difference between January and August.
Where are you going in Japan? Osaka? Okinawa? Tokyo? Or up north such as Hokkaido?
And when in 2027? I’m assuming January, but it depends on your definition of “cold.” I’m Canadian and could generally tolerate Tokyo and Osaka with a winter coat, gloves, and hoodie in January.
However, when I went to Universal Studios, I was freezing! USJ is basically right next to the water and that cold water wind chilled me to the bone. I had to buy an overpriced Mario Toque just to warm my head.
Again it depends on a lot of factors, but in case you don’t have enough winter gear, I suggest a visit to Uniqlo for Heat Gear while you’re in Japan.
One thing I’m going to say If you are young and Western like it sounds, I highly recommend you don’t wear athleisure, especially workout leggings/yoga-pants. It’s not like it’s illegal but NO ONE wears them there except for inside of gyms etc, they are seen as revealing too much of the bodyline etc and you will likely feel self conscious or out of place.
Have a look at any weather sites that gives historical data like [https://weatherspark.com/](https://weatherspark.com/) They can’t predict the weather, but they will give you a good idea of the average temperatures, precipitation, etc.
I would suggest wearing layers. Uniqlo’s Heat Tech, puffer jackets and vests are great for that. They vests and jackets are great for travel because they are lighweight, water resistant and can be rolled up into their included carry bags.
Even if you forget, you can find a Uniqlo when you get there.
Your entire wardrobe since you didn’t specify when and where you are going
you can get cold Fall early Winter type weather in January or you can swealtering hot n humid South-East USA Summers
Japan has weather that can involve meters of snow on the ground and weather that is so hot that people actually die. Where and when are you going?
It’ll be pretty cool but nothing unbearable. That’s unless you go further north like Aomori or somewhere in Hokkaido.
Generally everyone recommends about four days of clothing, but since it’ll still be in the winter/spring transition you should pack a sweater and a weather resistant jacket or shell but nothing too bulky and puffy since it can still be rather mild in the day and you gotta have space for souvenirs. Merino wool layers help a lot like socks and tops, and a hat.
