Excess iodine from kelp

Recently started trying japanese style dishes and wanted to make this dish that involved boiling 10g of kelp for making a soup base for ramen, this was definitly not a concentrate or big batch and was intented to be 1-2 servings.
Now my question is that after i drank the soup i realised that i went like 18 fold over the daily iodine limit. What did I do wrong? Am I using the wrong type of kelp or do i need to soak it beforehand? Or is this recipe just buns? I can send a link to the recipe if thats needed.
