As the title suggests, I'm probably moving back to Canada this year (by summer or at the very least by Christmas) after living in Japan for more than 6 years.
Also, is there anything I should prepare in my current country of residence for making the trip back home? I'm thinking double copies of tax documents, international drivers permit, criminal record check of some sort. I have a few people who could help me with my pension lump-sum, but maybe I should go with a company?
Am I missing anything else? I'm a Canadian citizen, born and raised in Canada.
I'm planning to send boxes around March of winter clothes to my parents house, and I have friends willing to take a suitcase or two when they visit in May.
I've helped many a person with clearing their apartment to move back home over the years, but I never thought this day would come for me. I was dead set on staying in Japan until this last year. So other than essentially destroying the nest I've created, I'm wondering what I should work on to make the transition back home smoother. (I moved to Japan December 2019, so even though I'm moving home, I'm treating it like I'm moving to a new country again.)
