Saw the post on road trips and got me thinking – anyone come across any interesting off-road adventures in Western Japan? Everything is fenced off – impossible to just take a hard left and drive into the woods. One can pay, of course, something like 2,500 yen per day and go to a civilised off road place, but that’s as perverse as those civilized BBQ places where you have tables lined up by the dozens and everyone pretends to have a great time.
Came across this site some time ago but many of these roads are now overgrown and actually kind of inaccessible.

Anyone come across any river crossings, dirt roads, anything that hasn’t been asphalted over? I’m aware of the Ishikawa beach highway, but ideally something else…
