Actually usable dishwashers in 2026

The reality in Japan is, it's 2026 and dishwashers in Japan are still a rarity in Japan (but maybe I'm wrong….).* I have seen multiple posts here on reddit. Most of what I've seen was older.

I'd like to get and give an update on dishwashers in Japan, that are actually useful. Can you share what you have, the price and your experience (Quality? Stability? Noise level? Runtime?** Self-Repair possible? Repair possible?) with it?

** "But you can look that up on the internet" you say. Unfortunately most manufactures hide those facts deep on their super slow and heavy loaded websites so you need 10 minutes to get proper information.

Here's a list of front loader machines I've found that look promising on the pictures. Can you share your experiences with those?

(I'm going to update the table above as soon as I get more information)

  • The ones with the stars (★★) are the ones I'm having a deeper interest personally.
  • Rinnai is cheap, although I'm worried about quality. I read on reddit that it's not good. Also their gas コンロs are extremely poorly designed, so I wouldnt be surprised.
  • AEG is a foreign brand, so I trust them more in general – and I have experience from older days overseas.
  • I hold Miele in high regard, but they are priced around 300,000 ~ 500,000 JPY+ (500k … super not payable for me) and have a run time of 3 hours or so. Can you expect those to run without trouble for 10 years, like the old ones?
  • Is buying at ikea still an option? It be a 2 hour drive for me one way, so I don't want to go there on good luck.

Information I can share:

  • Info: Electrolux stopped business for consumers in Japan (I think end of 2025)
  • Info: I had a Samkyo T60 (Countertop) (50D x 55W x 44.5H cm), 40,000 JPY. Super bad experience.
    1. I would call fraud what they do (… but what company doesnt do it these days). It broke after a little more than a year. Talking to support they judged "broken pump". I was not allowed to purchase a new pump to fix it. Samkyo refused. They didn't tell me the price if they'd come to repair, but they told me to rather buy a new one, because it would cost almost the same.
    2. It would only sometimes properly clean dishes. After washing we'd sometimes need to rinse the dishes again in the kitchen sink.
    3. Overall bad design. You can put things in the front. Spaces inside the rack are so big that 30% of our dishes would fall through. We'd have to make a plan on how to put things inside every time.
    4. Size-wise I'd say it provides the bare minimum (or even a little below that) if you want to insert pans and live with 2 adults.
    5. After the said 1+ year I've looked inside the machine. It looked like small amounts of water have always been leaking. Some of the used metal started to corrode(?)… I'm not sure. It looked a little not-future-fit. But don't take my unprofessional word on this part

* OT: I remember a friend coming over to my house oversea and said happily "we can wash the dishes together". Everyone looked at him speechless: "well… we have a dishwasher" 😀

** Little joke: After you scroll down 10 km of advertisement you might see the actual product somewhere on the page. Only Chuck Norris knows how to actually order there.
