Hey all, I've been wanting to live in Japan for many years now. Sadly, due to personal issues, I was not able to leave my country.
Now, I am free to go wherever I please. This means that I am really interested in pursuing living in Japan. I know people who have gone for a year in a English teacher program with their college. But I have been graduated for 6 years now and that specific channel is not available to me.
I live in Puerto Rico and I have been told by a couple of companies in Japan that I need to prove I took 12 years of classes with the language of instruction being english in order to qualify for a visa. The proof being an official letter from my university that certifies that I was taught primarily in english. This is not the case for me, I was taught in both Spanish and English. But my father and grandparents are from the USA and I have learned English since I was a child. Meaning, that I have the experience needed with the language, but no official way to demonstrate it like they are asking me for.
I have applied to many listings from different companies but so far I haven't had much luck.
I took a TEFL course and passed, so I have that certification now.
Basically, I am looking for advice in which places I can apply for, what companies are good and how it works in general.
I tried asking the consulate for Japan in my country but the infrastructure here is horrible and the location on Google is not accurate anymore. Also tried calling but the number is out of service.
I'm probably forgetting some details to mention but this is the general gist of the matter.
I would appreciate any and all advice 🙏
