How do you keep yourself from trying to translate while immersing?

Hi all. I keep catching myself trying to translate from Japanese to English while immersing. I’m bilingual and I noticed that on a day to day basis I don’t do any translating between my two known languages. My brain just accepts them for what they are.

I figure this is something that will come with more exposure to Japanese but I’ve noticed something similar with people that draw, especially beginners. They have activities like scribbling to help get into the drawing [mindset](https://cravepainting.com/blog/warm-up-exercises-for-drawing).

One caveat, I don’t think that identifying the function of particles or other sentence components is necessary translating. I see translating as trying to come up with a one-to-one equivalent in English for the Japanese sentence being read.

Do you have any tips to get into an immersion mindset and keep you from trying to translate?
