Weekly discussion and small questions thread

In response to user feedback, this is a recurring thread for general discussion about learning Japanese, and for asking your questions about grammar, learning resources, and so on. Let's come together and share our successes, what we've been reading or watching and chat about the ups and downs of Japanese learning.

The /r/Japanese rules (see here) still apply! Translation requests still belong in /r/translator and we ask that you be helpful and considerate of both your own level and the level of the person you're responding to. If you have a question, please check the subreddit's frequently asked questions, but we won't be as strict as usual on the rules here as we are for standalone threads.

  1. Hi all,

So I’ve been ordering boxes of books from Amazon Japan for a few years now, I’m studying Japanese so ordering books in Japanese from Amazon Japan has been so helpful until just now when I went to order a round of books and the shipping fee, which used to be like $30-$50 to ship to the US, jumped up to almost $100 USD.

I’m guessing this is to do with the US tariffs changing due to the current administration? Or am I missing something?

Just feeling quite stumped as I had like 17 books I was ready to order but I just can’t justify the shipping fee costing almost as much as the books now. (Yes even with the weak yen working in my favor and the books themselves being cheap)
