    少しだけ強い語尾・・・。
    綺麗事は充分に理解している、その上でなお、自分は鬼となってでも娘を守りたいという強い決意。
    しかしそれは、**罪の意識に苛むからゆえのもの**。
    ・・・何て長い一日なんだ。
    ・・・今日の一日で、どれだけのことが起こって、・・・俺たちはどれだけ追い詰められちまったってんだ・・・。

    **context**: 夏妃（なつひ） is the mother and 朱志香（ジェシカ） is her daughter. 夏妃, 朱志香, and multiple other characters are in a mansion where a murder has occurred. Although the best course of action would be for the entire group to stick together, Natsuhi, wielding a rifle, chases the other characters out of the room because she doesn’t trust anybody except for her daughter. In effect, this dooms the other characters to a fate of wandering around the mansion with a presumed killer loose. A cruel act, but she does it with protecting her daughter as her top priority.

    My confusion is from this line: 罪の意識に苛むからゆえのもの。

    I would expect this to be 罪の意識に**苛まれる** to indicate that Natsuhi is tormented *by* the sense of guilt. The way it’s written, it comes off to me as if Natsuhi herself (or unspoken subject?) is tormenting a sense of guilt, which is obviously nonsensical.

    What am I misunderstanding? My reading of に’s usage here？

  2. is there an easy way to tell when a described noun falls into the XY or XのY format? it seems arbitrary and i haven’t recognized a pattern. it feels like it’s all on a case by case basis. sometimes there’s no の and it’s just 「verb」「noun」 and other times it’s 「verb」の「noun」
