Am I seeing this correctly? A monthly fee for a second card. The deal they offer is:
1. If you're applying for a new Amex card, you can apply for a family card at no fee.
2. If you already have an Amex card, you pay 550yen/month (or 6600 yen per year) for not a gold or a platinum but a regular-ass card?
It doesn't make any sense. At that rate, they should call it a Uranium card or something. I haven't seen anything like this from any card companies in Japan. Am I missing anything?

What’s surprising about it? Amex is known for having high fees. The Green is their entry level card and has benefits comparable to gold cards elsewhere like priority pass, smartphone insurance, return protection. Most of the benefits also apply to family card holders.
The Gold is about 40,000 yen a year and the Platinum is 165,000 yen, although both come with free family cards.
Amex isn’t for everyone but the Green is actually a great card if you care about the customer service, various insurance and shopping protections, and decent point return rate.
It’s very much a “spend money to save money” model though so if you want to get every point of value you should get something like a Rakuten card.
