How quiet do I need to be in my own house?

Let me start by saying that I am a Latina woman residing in Japan for some years now. I love music, especially while doing manual labor, like cleaning my house, doing laundry, etc.

Recently, a guy moved in to the place next to mine, and every time I listen to music on speaker, he keeps banging on the wall for me to stop. Mind you, I have been living in there for many years, never had any issues with any of my neighbors. I never listen at late hours (that is, I only use the speaker between 10 am and 10 pm), and never blasting loud. It is the same noise as a person singing in the shower.

During the week I understand if someone works at home, they would need the silence, so I have been turning it off if he bangs. But during the weekend??

He would bang persistently, or even screen “shut up!” (ウルセ),and, again, it was around 11am!

The worst is: I am a woman. How am I to know if he is going to go crazy? I am cautious when going out in dark streets and such, but is the only way for me to feel safe in my own home seriously to live as if I wasn’t there?

Sorry for the long post. Just reeling in, I think. Thanks for reading. If you have any words of support or advices, please share.
