I'm currently a language student in Tokyo and I'm looking to apply to graphic design jobs here in JP. This isn't exactly a post about what JLPT level needed to work in graphic design, but just to see if anyone has any experience they have to share about working in a design profession in Japan. Outside of Tokyo is ok as well, I'm looking into jobs around the country. It's been hard to find experience on this, mostly people working in exclusively IT/coding/web design. I've been looking into various jobs in tourism, events, packaging design, etc since I have adaptable experience for these fields. I'm interested in hearing how working in design here was different from their home country. Also if there are any specific skills/programs that I should teach myself before the application process.
My background: 28/F….. Have a bachelors of arts degree from a relatively famous American art school and worked in graphic design for 3-4 years before moving to Japan. This includes internships and almost 2 years as a graphic designer at a fashion brand with a wide range of work.
