Outdoor cafes and dining options for casual drop-ins and hangouts….

With the warmer weather coming up and spring almost here (this weekend might even hit 20°C / 68°F), the warm day (recently over the weekend) reminded me of something I’ve noticed before…

Although Tokyo has some outdoor cafés, terrace restaurants, and rooftop bars (especially at hotels or more upscale spots), it feels like there aren’t many casual, walk-in, everyday places where you can just grab a coffee or drink outside without needing a reservation or being seated at a formal table.

In a lot of other major cities I’ve been to, outdoor seating is pretty common and accessible. They’re places where you can casually hang out, maybe even mingle a bit, without it feeling like a special occasion or fine-dining experience.

Maybe I’m just not looking in the right neighborhoods? I know of a couple of Starbucks in Shibuya and Harajuku but those are the only ones that come to mind.

Are there any more laid-back, easygoing spots in Tokyo with somewhat spacious outdoor seating or rooftop vibes that don’t require planning ahead? Would love recommendations for casual al fresco coffee or drinks.

Appreciate any suggestions!
