Hi all, I've been contemplating moving to Japan (or possibly China) and obtaining citizenship for almost a decade now. However, most of my information has come from my mother, who is Japanese.
I am currently an American citizen born to Japanese and Chinese parents. At the time I was born, my mother was still a Japanese citizen and same with my father, although I doubt that affects anything. Since then, both my parents have become American citizens, but my mother has always encouraged me to consider moving back to Japan. I am currently a medical school student. I can speak Japanese fluently, but I have trouble reading and writing it (though I will start relearning it once I have more time after my schooling finishes).
At the time I was born, my mother was still a Japanese citizen, and the same was true of my father, although I don't believe that affects anything. Most of my experience surrounding this has been with ABJ friends who have moved back to Japan, although I do not know the specific details.
What difficulties would I likely encounter in becoming naturalized? Living in Japan for "x" amount of time isn't a concern of mine, and neither is hiring an immigration expert or team if need be.
