What we see on the news is always going to be sensationalized and dramatized so I try to take it with a grain of salt while also keeping myself informed about goings on. However, I won’t lie that all of the news I’m seeing from the various communities and individuals I linger around for Japanese news have started concerning me on whether or not moving to Japan is a good idea anymore.
With Prime Minister Takaichi’s disproportionate targeting of foreigners on a government level, general alt-right nationalist sentiment and xenophobic tendencies rising, and the LDPs recent supermajority win I’m beginning to fear the future of moving to Japan. For anyone more educated than me, who maybe lives/has lived there, has family there, etc etc, I would really appreciate hearing some firsthand sources of information about boots on the ground living as opposed to being an outsider looking in.
I’m well aware of the country’s flaws and xenophobic history. I’m not someone looking to use Japan as a utopian nation to escape my grievances, but I’m also aware that being an immigrant in any nation will always inherently be more difficult to assimilate into than facing the issues in your home turf even without the political climate making you unwelcome
