It's been a few months since the last update on kei3, the sub's take-home pay calculator: https://kei3.japanfinance.org/.
The income input section now has an "Advanced" mode that supports multiple types of income and related details. This enables:
- Blue-filer special deduction for business income
- Multiple salaries, a mix of salary/bonus income
- Commuting allowance benefit
- Foreign stock-based compensation (e.g. RSUs)
This update expands the situations in which the calculator can accurately calculate social insurance premiums and taxes, and thus, take-home pay.
While accuracy and simplicity are a goal of the tool, teaching how the calculations are made is another. Don't forget to check the tooltips if you are interested in understanding more about how things are calculated. Some tooltips were revamped as part of this update. With a better shared understanding of how the calculations work, we can hopefully have better discussions about related topics.
