I've been reading the latest news about the rise in costs for visa renewals and PR which has been very good for the heart to read. When I read they're planning to make it so you have to be on a 5 year visa to apply for PR, I kinda died inside since I know how rare 5 year visas supposedly are and how it's all fucking random.
Currently, I'm on 3>5 years, and I initially thought I'd be in the clear no matter what I got, but now? Now I'm not sure at all. I know my job is getting phased out so I'll have to find a new one next year and who knows how that will look to the immigration check man, assuming they just don't want to keep all foreigners off of 5 years for that delicious renewal money.
So I wanted to ask other people, either currently on a work visa or upgraded to PR, what does your pattern of years look like? Did you go from 3>1>1>5, or 3>3>5, or what? While I know it's mostly random, I'm curious if going down in years is common, or if most renewals steadily increase.
