Paypay bank keeps denying me

I am running out of patience with this company.

I am trying to create an account with them (bank) for my sole proprietorship.

I tried to register, ding my name is too long. I email them about this and they tell me to replace my middle name with capital letter and to change my company name to kana.

Okay done, I proceed and then do the phone verification.

Next they tell me cuz I am foreign national I need to send all my documents via mail.

Ok fuck, I print what they ask me to print, send my documents 2 weeks later (now) I get email saying they can't proceed because my name does not match my documents ( no shit, you asked me to replace my middle name with capital letter)

What are my options here other than sending an angry email? This has been a constant back and forth this the beginning of this month.

  1. I ended up doing my PayPay bank application by mail, also, but I entered my name on the forms the way it is shown on my ID. They won’t approve the account if there’s an ID mismatch.

  2. I use SBI and they’re pretty solid with English support. No issues with my middle name I think they didn’t even ask me for it.

  3. The person who told you to shorten your middle name was wrong, your name should match what’s on your residence card, and that should match what’s on your passport (though with first/middle names likely merged together without a space).

If your heart is set on paypay bank, do the mail application again with your full name written in.

  4. Choose a bank with a physical office, make an appointment, do all the paperwork then and there together with the clerk, and bob’s your uncle.
If you really want to insist on using an online only bank, you better be ready to spend a lot of time on the phone.

  5. Ask them for a paper application form. At least when they were still Japan Net Bank, I was initially denied applying for a personal account, and they sent me an application form so that I could apply by post instead (since my name was too long for the website).

  6. I remember having not such a brutal process opening an account with them. In fact, I would recommend PayPay bank for (what I thought) was its easiness to open an account to any foreigner living in Japan.

The all caps thing is mind boggling because it does need to be the same as government documents. Regarding length, I am usually told to just stop at whatever letter is at the end of the field. So if I’m trying to write “Smith” for example and I get to the end of the field at the letter “m”, that’s where I stop.

  7. If you speak Japanese, I recommend Resona bank.

My name is too long, and they were okay to only use my first name

  8. I spent months jumping through the same hoops before giving up on Paypay bank. They refused to accept my passport and any of my Japanese government issued ID inc. my residence card, my MyNumber card, and my driver’s licence multiple times both online and by post. They’ve either got the world’s most bloody useless management and IT dept. or it’s a deliberate policy.

Edit: Before anyone says it: I’ve used the same ID to open accounts with other banks, credit card and finance companies with no issues, and I have PR, own property, and I’ve been in overall good financial standing for many years. It’s them, not me.
